ADHD Training, Employers Take Note

August 29, 20252 min read

When I first read about Capgemini facing an employment tribunal for failing to provide ADHD awareness training, it struck a chord. It wasn’t just a legal case, it was a reminder that every mind can shine when met with understanding.

➡️ Context & Story:
Last month, a London tribunal ruled that Capgemini discriminated against a senior technologist by ignoring an occupational health recommendation to train her teammates on neurodiversity - including ADHD. That training wasn’t expensive. It wasn’t radical. It was just basic empathy in action - yet refusing to deliver it was deemed unlawful.

Meanwhile, another tribunal recognised that a leader with ADHD was treated unfairly after a team-building night ended with her locked out and sleeping in a sauna, partly due to the organisational challenges caused by ADHD. The company simply didn’t meet her halfway.

➡️ Why this matters:
ADHD isn’t a passing trend. Diagnosis rates are rising, so many talented individuals now recognise the pattern in their everyday lives. So when businesses ignore training and awareness, they’re not just risking tribunals - they’re turning away creativity, loyalty, and diverse perspectives.

➡️ Lessons for employers:
- Build inclusive training into your systems, not as a checkbox, but as a foundation of how you lead.
- Recognise ADHD as potentially a protected disability that requires support—not just nice-to-have flexibility.
- Act early: even small misplaced frustrations (like sighs or muted criticism) can become flashpoints when someone is struggling.

➡️ But there's hope!
These tribunal rulings are wake-up calls, not punishments. They remind us that inclusive leadership isn’t expensive, it’s human, it’s smart, and it’s foundational to meaningful success.
